What is acupuncture

About Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural self-healing process. This practice is several thousand years old and is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) and is carried out by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very specific body locations know as acupuncture points, or acupoints.

According to TCM, the Chinese term chi synonym to life force or vital energy, is considered as energy channels that flow in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy pathways in the body are known as meridians. When the flow of chi through the meridians is blocked or when there is imbalance between the two types of chi (yin and yang), health deviates from pink giving way for the illness to supersede. The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points; the acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions, reestablish the regular flow and restore the balance of chi through the meridians, thus giving back wealth to health.

Types of Acupunture:
In addition to needling acupuncture points, acupuncture treatment may include other techniques such as: TCM based acupuncture: This type of acupuncture involves the burning of Chinese medicinal herbs that are used along with the acupuncture treatment to aid in the strengthening of body.

Japanese acupuncture:
The comfort level and the depth of needling are often gentler and subtler than the other acupuncture techniques. The main goal in the Japanese style is to diagnose and treat any core imbalance within the patient, so that and the body is better positioned to heal itself with longer lasting changes.

Auricular acupuncture:
Auricular acupuncture is based on normalizing the body's dysfunction through stimulation of definite points on the external ear surface. Ear acupuncture has proven
to be an efficient method of treating a wide variety of conditions, from headaches and allergies to addictions and pain disorders.

Korean hand acupuncture:
In this particular style, the hands are seen as a microcosm of the entire body. Fine needles are inserted into specific points on the hand to bring in body balance and wellness through the hands.

Cupping:
The basic idea behind cupping therapy is to place glass cups or silicone cups on the patient’s skin to create a vacuum, so the blood is drawn to the surface of the skin in specific parts of the body that need healing. This technique resolves myriad of problems right from common cold to respiratory problems.

Moxibustion:
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called "moxa" are burned on or very near the surface of the skin to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences.

Electro acupuncture:
Electroacupuncture adds a microcurrent to the needle so as to enhance the function of that specific point which thereby activates different types of regeneration in the body.

Medical acupuncture:
Medical acupuncture is performed by a licensed medical doctor. It incorporates the medical science surrounding neuromuscular anatomy. Some also include historically Chinese acupuncture patterns; thereby, creating a hybrid of western and eastern medical knowledge.
